The next stage of evolution of my work

The images found in this second Photo page are among my favorites.
Some are commissioned pieces, while others I made for myself.

#028 Horse Play
I took Horse play from a book that I bought from the Library. The original image showed several muddy horses trying to get room for themselves. I modified the image to include only the two most prominent horses. This one is made of poplar, and coated with a gloss varnish. My Dad was at my house while I was making this one, and he burned the left leg of the front horse for me.
#029 Windsor
This image is one of Prince Phillip driving a four horse carriage in front of Windsor Castle. This image was also taken from a book I bought from the Library. It is made of maple which is a very dense wood that burns slowly. Maple allowed me to acheive very great detail on this piece. It was coated with a gloss varnish.
This has been voted my best piece by several people including my daughter Jacqueline.
Mike Cleave's
#030 Jorrell & Jilissa

I made this for Mike Cleave, one of my co-workers. Mike asked me if I could make this piece from a wallet sized photo of his children. As you can see, my answer was yes. I feel this is one of my most impressive pieces. Not only was the source image only a wallet sized photo, it was one that was already 9 years old. This one is made of poplar, and coated with a gloss varnish.

#032 Ole`
The source image for Ole` came from a photograph I took while in Cancun Mexico in 1993. This bull was very fiesty. It leapt over the wall on it's first charge, knocking down one of the speakers in the process. This piece is made of poplar, and is about 11 inches wide. It is coated with gloss varnish.

Rita Wachowiak's
#034 Peaches

I created this piece for Rita Wachowiak and her daughter Lisa. I took these images from 3 different photographs of her pets.
The souce image comparison page (artburn.00page.com/photo.html) would be a good one for you to see what the source picture looked like. Since it was a rather large piece, about 20" wide, I had to scan it in 3 pieces.
Rita Wachowiak's
#034 Brandy

This was the last piece I did on pine. I have decided to refrain from using pine again since the density of the grain is significantly different to cause the wood burner to skip. This makes working with pine very difficult, so I don't anticipate using it anytime in the future.
Rita Wachowiak's
#034 Mandy

Much of this image was done with oil color pencils. This cat did not have too many features that allowed me to burn them, so I was forced to resort to using pencils.
The pencils I use are specifically designed for use with wood burning, and are made by the "Walnut Hallow" company.
They can be purchased from any craft store.
