Image Page 3

This page includes pyrographs numbered 033 to 044
I would like to remind you to visit artburn.00page.com to view side by side comparisons of many of the pyrographs on this page with their source image.

#033 Liberty
I made this one upon the suggestion of my mother. She helped select the source image from among 10 shots of Liberty. Alternately, I considered a face only shot of Liberty reminiscent of the image you see on some coins. The concentric squares on the right came out of my head since in reality, that area is an unsightly parking lot.

#036 Tsipiana
This piece is now in Greece. Originally, Andy Psios who works the door at Flanagan's in North Chicago asked me to burn a flag into a walking cane for his grandfather. When I explained how difficult and expensive this would be, he commissioned this piece. I made 2 mistakes on it since I thought his deltas were "A". Luckily I was able to fix the problem, but this killed my profit margin on the piece.
#035a Take That
This is the first half of a 2' long 2" wide pyrograph. This half is my Alma Matter's Boilermaker Special just after it rolled over and crushed rival Indiana.
#035b Take That
I intentionally made this part of the piece look crappy and smeared since the Indiana had just been abused by the Boilermaker Special. This was made out of Aspen. I bought this inexpensive strip to test Aspen as a wood for pyrographs because of the hardly visible wood grain. Unfortunately, Aspen smells badly when burnt so I have never used it since.
#037a Negro Island Light
This is the first half of a quite large pryograph. This was the first occasion where I joined two pieces of wood together so I could make a larger image. Dave Taylor commissioned this piece from me since his wife Louistine is a collector of Black Art. He had a postcard of this lighthouse from circa 1910 but was never able to locate any information about it.
#037b Negro Island Light
Through my online search skills, I was able to discove that the name of this lighthouse was changed in 1932 to the "Curtis Island Light" named after the man who founded the Saturday Evening Post. The actual pyrograph has a wonderful holographic cloud effect as you tilt it under natural light.
#038 Trinceton
This piece was also commissioned by Dave Taylor and his wife, Louistine. This is one of my favorite pyrographs. I remember when I showed it to my coworker, Dave Klein, he said "It looks like he is just going to leap off the wood". You have to see the side by side comparison of this one on artburn.00page.com
Certificate of Authenticity
Dave Taylor came up with a wonderful idea. He asked for a Certificate of Authenticty. I developed this one, and gave him a signed copy. I make this certificate available to those who want one for their commissioned pieces. It is a nominal extra charge if they desire one.
#039 Jennifer's First Communion
This one was presented as a gift to Jennifer Soto. Jennifer is one of my daughter Jacqueline's best friends and was also the subject of #015. Her mother and Father Tess & Ver Soto are goos friends of my family, and in fact, I created much of #51 Blair Witch during a party at their home in Palatine.
#040 Blue's Clues
This pyrograph was created on a Maple blank. My son Daniel wanted me to make one of Blue's Clues since he and his sister enjoy playing the Blue's Clues computer game at home. The color was applied using oil colored pencils from Walnut Hollow. A simple one like this took me only about 4 hours including the time to create the wood blank.
#041 Britney Spears
My son Daniel is a huge Britney Spears fan. He often puts on a show for my family, dancing and singing like Britney. He has a collection of dolls, posters, and video tapes of Britney. One of them he calls "Britney Spears in Sawaii". This pyrograph is hanging in his bedroom, and he can often be found carrying it around with him.
#042 Stinky
This piece was commissioned by Nancee Odeegard. She said she wanted it to remember her dog. She is a big fan of Tweety Bird, and her dog once had a run in with a Skunk. She initially intended to keep it outside, but thankfully, when she saw the finished product, she decided to keep it indoors. A simple one like this typically costs half of what I charge for a portrait.
#043 Jose Diaz Barientos
A cousin named Pepe, who lives in Mexico, came to visit the Chicago portion of our family. He was very impressed with my artwork, and mailed a 40 year old picture of his deceased father to my cousin Rich when he got home. I felt since he was my Uncle, and since my cousin had been so pleasant that I would make this one for him without charge. When Rich went to visit Pepe in Mexico, he brought it with and presented it to him.
#044 St. Theresa's
My wife suggested I create a pyrograph of our church. I thought it was a good idea, and might gain me some recognition. I especially like the effect that I acheived with the crusifixion. Unfortunately, I have not seen it since we donated it to the church. It must be kept in someone's office.
